September 16, (THEWILL) – ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ has made history at the North American box office, overtaking ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ to claim the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.
As of September 16, 2026, the Marvel blockbuster had grossed $936.773 million in the United States and Canada after 47 days in cinemas. ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ had held the record since 2015 with $936.66 million.
The record adds to the film’s strong run since its July release. It opened with about $360 million in North America, setting a new record for the biggest opening weekend in the region.
The film has also made a major impact in Nigeria. ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ crossed ₦2.1 billion at the Nigerian box office, making it the highest-grossing Hollywood film in the country. Distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, it reached the milestone after six consecutive weekends at number one.
Across the wider West African market, the film has reportedly grossed about ₦2.2 billion.

Holland’s 2026 total has been boosted by two major releases: ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. The two films have both crossed $1 billion worldwide, with ‘Brand New Day’ accounting for the larger share.
At 30, Holland has now reached the top of the widely reported career box-office ranking, while ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ continues its record-setting run in cinemas.
