August 12, (THEWILL) — Nollywood actress and filmmaker Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde has revealed that her production company received ₦22,276,558 from the cinema run of her movie, “Mother’s Love”, after the film grossed ₦103,094,663 at the box office.
Omotola shared the figures in a video on Instagram while giving an account of the film’s earnings and reflecting on its cinema run.
According to the actress, several deductions were made from the total box-office earnings before the final amount was received by the producers.
“At the end of our run, we had made ₦103,094,663. After deduction from exhibitors, distributors, print, advertising, value added tax, entertainment tax and withholding tax, all deductions and everything else from cinemas, the money that was accrued to us as producers of Mother’s was ₦22,276,558”, she said.
Omotola described the cinema run as an “amazing run”, but explained that she eventually had to pull the film from cinemas because of pressing issues that required her attention.
She admitted she did not have enough time to promote the project, adding that the intense demands of a modern cinema release were a challenge she had not been fully prepared for.
Despite the limited time available for promotion, “Mother’s Love” crossed the ₦100 million mark at the Nigerian box office during its theatrical run.
The film, which marked Omotola’s directorial debut, began its nationwide cinema run on March 6, following its Nigerian premiere earlier that month.

The actress also confirmed that the entire amount received by the producers was donated to Slum2School Africa, following a promise made before the film’s release.
“100% of that money, as promised by Red Hot Concepts, was donated to the NGO, Slum to School Africa”, she said.
Slum2School Africa is a non-profit organisation focused on improving access to education for children in underserved communities.
Omotola’s disclosure has also drawn attention to the economics of cinema in Nigeria, particularly the gap between a film’s box-office gross and the amount that reaches its producers.
“Mother’s Love” made more than ₦103 million at the cinemas, but only about ₦22 million went to the producers after the various deductions.
The figures highlight the financial challenges filmmakers can face, as a strong box-office performance does not always translate into a large return for the production company.
