October 29, (THEWILL) – Security Experts at the sixth Annual Security Converge in Calabar have proffered solutions to mitigate the challenges of interagency collaboration in the fight against insecurity in Nigeria.

These, according to the experts, include strengthening inter-agency security meetings and briefings, clarification of inter-agency roles to prevent rivalry and conflicts, and strengthening legal frameworks and policies to enhance accountability.

The solutions were proffered at a three-day conference organised by the Institute of Security and Strategic Studies (ISSS) with the theme, “Addressing Nigeria’s Security Challenges: A Panacea for Socioeconomic Development,” which had in attendance about 30 delegates from the private and public sectors.

These, according to the group in a communique issued at the end of the converge, which was endorsed by six persons including Prof. Azeez Olaniyan (Board Sec, ISSS), include strengthening inter-agency security meetings and briefings, clarification of inter-agency roles to prevent rivalry and conflicts, and strengthening legal frameworks and policies to enhance accountability.

Others are the use of technology for operations, creation of a functional joint command centre in the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) and instituting performance evaluation mechanisms.

The security experts also noted that the government should ensure the training and capacity building of personnel, develop a seamless communication network amongst agencies and fairness in the recruitment process.

The group noted that the 2023 conference sought to identify security challenges bedevilling Nigeria today and devise strategies for addressing them.

As part of the conference, several papers were presented by intellectuals and security experts from selected institutions across the country.
