September 15, (THEWILL) – The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards celebrated some of television’s biggest shows and stars on Monday, September 14, with ‘Widow’s Bay’ leading the night.
Hosted by Mariska Hargitay at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, the ceremony saw ‘Widow’s Bay’ win six awards during the main broadcast.
Combined with its wins at the Creative Arts Emmys, the Apple TV+ series finished the Emmy cycle with 14 awards, setting a new record for a comedy series.
Matthew Rhys was another major winner of the night. He won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for ‘Widow’s Bay’ before taking home Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for ‘The Beast in Me’.
His two wins made him the first actor to win two lead acting Emmy Awards on the same night.
‘The Pitt’ also had a strong showing, winning six awards across the 2026 Emmy cycle. The series took home Outstanding Drama Series, while Noah Wyle won Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for the second consecutive year.
The show also received four awards at the Creative Arts Emmys for guest acting, casting, prosthetic makeup, and original music and lyrics.
Rhea Seehorn also celebrated a major career milestone after winning Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for ‘Pluribus’.
It was her first Emmy win after several nominations, including for her role as Kim Wexler in ‘Better Call Saul’.
Jean Smart continued her winning streak, taking home Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for ‘Hacks’. It was her fifth consecutive win in the category and her eighth acting Emmy overall.
In the limited series categories, ‘DTF St. Louis’ won Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.
David Harbour and Linda Cardellini also won supporting acting awards for the series, while Sally Field took home Outstanding Lead Actress for ‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’.
‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ won Outstanding Variety Series, while ‘The Traitors’ won Outstanding Reality Competition Program.

Fox received the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award for his years of work supporting Parkinson’s research and advocacy. He received a standing ovation from the audience.
The show also paid tribute to Dolly Parton, who died the previous month, with Reba McEntire taking part in the tribute.

The In Memoriam segment honoured several television stars who died during the past year, including Rob Reiner, Catherine O’Hara, James Van Der Beek, Eric Dane and Diane Ladd.
Jamie Lee Curtis delivered a special tribute to Reiner during the segment, becoming emotional as she remembered her late friend and former co-star.
