September 07, (THEWILL) — Puerto Rican superstar, Bad Bunny, has won his first Emmy Award after his Super Bowl halftime show made history at the 2026 Creative Arts Emmys.
The singer won Outstanding Variety Special (Live) for ‘The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny’ on Saturday, September 5, at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. He was recognized as both a performer and producer on the winning special.
The award was part of a seven-Emmy sweep for the 13-minute performance. The show won in every category in which it was nominated, making it the most-awarded Super Bowl halftime show in Emmy history.
The win also made Bad Bunny’s performance only the second Super Bowl halftime show to receive the honour. The first was the 2022 halftime show featuring Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and 50 Cent.
Bad Bunny’s performance also became the first Spanish-language program to win the category, adding another milestone to the Puerto Rican star’s growing list of achievements.
The show picked up another award for Outstanding Directing for a Variety Special, recognizing the work behind the large-scale production.
Its music also earned an Emmy for Outstanding Music Direction, while the dancers and performers were recognized with the award for Outstanding Choreography for Variety or Reality Programming.
The production team also won Outstanding Lighting Design/Lighting Direction for a Special, recognizing the lighting work used throughout the performance.
Another Emmy went to the show for Outstanding Sound Mixing for a Variety Series or Special, while the final award came in Outstanding Technical Direction and Camerawork for a Special, recognizing the technical production and camera work behind the performance.
The halftime show featured Bad Bunny alongside guest appearances from major artists, including Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin. It also highlighted Puerto Rican culture through its music, imagery and visual elements.
The seven Emmy wins add to what has already been a major year for Bad Bunny. Earlier this year, his album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” became the first Spanish-language album to win the Grammy Award for Album of the Year.
Bad Bunny also had another Emmy-related win on the night. The ‘Saturday Night Live’ season premiere he hosted won Outstanding Makeup for a Variety, Nonfiction or Reality Program. That award went to the program’s makeup team and was not a personal Emmy for Bad Bunny.
While the Super Bowl halftime show won seven Emmys overall, Bad Bunny personally received the Emmy for Outstanding Variety Special (Live) as a performer and producer. The other six awards recognized members of the creative and technical team behind the production.
The achievement places Bad Bunny among the major names making an impact across music and television, adding his first Emmy to a year already marked by historic Grammy success.
