September 10, (THEWILL) – Music video director, Femi Dapson, has opened up about the remarkable career journey that took him from working with Bishop David Oyedepo at Living Faith Church to doing cleaning jobs in Lagos.
Dapson shared his story during a recent interview with media personality, Chude Jideonwo, on the WithChude platform. He recalled having a comfortable position at Winners Chapel, where he worked closely with Oyedepo and had access to several high-profile people.
According to Dapson, he rose to a senior position at the church despite not having a university degree. He also had opportunities to meet presidents through his work.
“I had to leave Winners, honestly, because I was like, if I stay here, I’ll get too comfortable”, he said.
Dapson explained that he was worried the comfort would stop him from pursuing his financial goals. He decided to leave the church and move to Lagos.
“I was wearing ties. I was meeting with presidents. I was like, Omo, don’t get carried away. You need to go and make money. And then I left. I came to Lagos,” he recalled.
His move to Lagos was not easy. Dapson said he took up cleaning jobs while looking for a new opportunity.
He later saw a job advert in a newspaper and decided to apply. At the interview, he found himself competing with candidates who had university degrees.
Dapson said his experience and confidence helped him secure the job despite not having a degree. He told the employers that his previous experience would help him deliver results.
“I was telling them that, see, I will make your life easy. This is what I was doing in Winners. And they were so happy about it,” he said.
That opportunity helped him begin his career in the media industry. He later moved into music video production and founded Nouvelle Films.
Dapson has since worked on several major Afrobeats music videos, including Rema’s “Calm Down”, Burna Boy’s “City Boy”, Rema’s “Charm” and Kizz Daniel’s “Cough”.
His work on Rema’s “Calm Down” earned him wider recognition as the song became a global hit. The music video also contributed to the song’s growing international profile.
Dapson continues to work in the Nigerian creative industry through his production company, Nouvelle Films, where he handles music video and commercial projects.
