June 30, (THEWILL) – The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has organised a send-forth dinner for the senior women’s national team, the Super Falcons, as they prepare for the ninth FIFA Women’s World Cup finals.
The tournament jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand is billed to take place from July 20 to August 20. The send-forth, scheduled for Saturday, will take place at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja and will be attended by prominent political figures and government officials, including Senator (Mrs.) Oluremi Tinubu, the First Lady, and Alhaji Ismaila Abubakar, the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Sports and Youth Development.
At the dinner will be players, technical and administrative staff, as well as officials from the NFF, led by President Ibrahim Musa Gusau and General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi. In addition, corporate leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, and various football stakeholders will also be present. The Super Falcons are due to depart for Australia on Sunday, where they will undergo a 15-day training programme before the start of the tournament. They will be based in Brisbane, which will host two of their group phase matches.
The World Cup will be the largest in history, featuring 32 teams. It marks the first time that the senior FIFA competition is hosted by two countries in two different confederations. Nigeria’s captain, Onome Ebi, will be one of the oldest players at the age of 40, alongside Brazil’s Marta and Canada’s Christine Sinclair, all participating in their sixth FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Prior to the dinner, the Australian High Commission will host the Falcons to a dinner at the High Commission in Abuja.
