August 24, (THEWILL) — Yinka Quadri and Dele Odule broke down in tears as they paid their final respects to veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, during his funeral rites in Ilaro, Ogun State.

The emotional scenes unfolded as family members, friends and colleagues gathered to bid the Yoruba film icon a final farewell.

Odule, who arrived in Ilaro alongside other industry veterans, became emotional while delivering his tribute.

He cried as he spoke about his decades-long friendship and professional relationship with Ogogo, reflecting the close bond they shared.

Quadri, one of Ogogo’s closest friends and longtime colleagues, also broke down during the funeral proceedings as colleagues rendered emotional chants and tributes in honour of the deceased actor. Those around him offered comfort as he mourned his longtime friend.

Other Nollywood figures at the ceremony included Jide Kosoko, Femi Adebayo, Mr Latin, Faithia Balogun, Fausat Balogun, Ireti Osayemi and Toyosi Adesanya.

Ogogo was laid to rest in his hometown of Ilaro on Monday in accordance with Islamic rites. His burial came a day after his death on Sunday, August 23, at the age of 66, following a battle with cancer.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also mourned the veteran actor, describing his death as a painful and heartbreaking loss to Nigeria, particularly the creative industry.

The governor extended his condolences to Ogogo’s children, family, colleagues and fans, while praising the actor for using his talent to entertain audiences and contribute to society through his performances in numerous Nigerian films.

Sanwo-Olu said Ogogo’s work helped mirror society, shape character and leave a lasting impression on generations of film lovers.

He added that the actor’s death had created a void in the entertainment industry that would take time to fill. The governor prayed for Ogogo’s eternal rest in Al-Jannah Firdaus and asked God to give his loved ones the strength to cope with the loss.

Ogogo’s death has continued to attract tributes from across the Nigerian entertainment industry, with colleagues and fans remembering him for his contribution to Yoruba-language cinema and his decades-long career.
