December 07, (THEWILL) – The National Judicial Council (NJC) has reinstated Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, as a judge of the Federal High Court.
The NJC had in 2018, at its 87th meeting, recommended the dismissal of two Judges, Ofili-Ajumogobia and James Agbadu-Fishim of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria.
Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia’s dismissal followed a recommendation of the NJC Committee, which investigated misconduct allegations contained in a petition by the then Acting Executive Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Magu.
While EFCC had arraigned Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia over allegations of money laundering and breach of public trust, the charges were, however, quashed and dismissed by the courts.
Following the judgement, the NJC at its meeting held on December 1, 2022, reinstated Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia, as Justice of the Federal High Court.
Her reinstatement, which takes immediate effect, was conveyed in a circular of the Federal High Court dated Dec. 5th, 2022.
The circular signed by the Chief Judge of the Court, Justice John Tsoho, notified all judges of the courts.
“Your Lordships are by this Circular letter notified that at the meeting of the National Judicial Council held on the 1st of December, 2022, the Council reinstated the Hon. Justice R. N. Ofili-Ajumogobia as a Judicial Officer.
“The reinstatement takes instant effect and there shall be consequential posting”, the circular read.
The Chief Registrar of the court as well as the Director of Library and Deputy Director of Finance and Accounts, were all copied in the circular.
