Moses Scores For Spartak Moscow, Dedicates It To #ENDSARS Protesters

BEVERLY HILLS, October 25, (THEWILL) – Spartak Moscow’s summer signing, the midfield loanee from Chelsea FC, Victor Moses has dedicated his first Russian Premier League goal to End SARS protesters in Nigeria.

These protesters in Nigeria in recent weeks have rallied against the activities of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), a controversial police unit in Nigeria. They have also called for an end to bad governance and poor economic conditions in the country.

Although, the government disbanded SARS a few days after the protest started, the protesters persisted. Then, on Tuesday, October 20, men in military camouflage fired at protesters at the Lekki Toll Gate in Lagos, killing 12 people, according to Amnesty International.

The versatile ex-Super Eagles of Nigeria midfielder opened his account for the Red and Whites in their 3-1 away victory over FC Krasnodar on Saturday.

In the 33rd minute of the game, the 29-year-old fired home a beauty to double his side’s lead after Argentine centre forward Ezequiel Ponce’s opener. Ponce it was who provided Moses with the assist for the goal.

Jordan Larsson, who had earlier assisted in Ponce’s goal, got his own name on the score sheet when he drilled the ball into the net in the 82nd minute to seal the victory for Spartak and render Leon Sabua’s 52nd minute effort for Krasnodar a mere consolation.

THEWILL believes Moses was pleased with the team’s win, but the striker took some time to reflect on the protests in Nigeria. He is of the belief that Nigerians have the right to express their grievances through protest and not lose their lives as a result.

Therefore, the midfielder lent his support to the campaigners by dedicating his maiden goal in the Russian top-flight to them.

“Brilliant win today and delighted to get my first goal for the club,” Moses tweeted.

“I dedicate my goal today to the people of Nigeria. Enough is enough! Nigerians have the right to protest and not be killed for it. Pray for Nigeria.”

Moses has now made two appearances for the Russian Premier League side who sit at the top of the table since he completed his loan move to the club from Chelsea. He had previously played for Liverpool, Stoke City, West Ham United, Fenerbahce and Inter Milan on different loan spells since he joined Chelsea in 2012.

Moses, before his retirement from international commitments in 2018, was capped 38 times for Nigeria and was part of the victorious Super Eagles team that won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

THEWILL believes he will continue his impressive performances when Spartak Moscow next take on FC Rostov at home in their Russian Premier League game on Saturday, October 31.
