September 7, (THEWILL) – The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), has redirected processing of passengers through the New International Terminal of Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.
The Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, on August 31, 2023, declared that the old international terminal of the airport would be shut down by October 1, 2023.
The Minister, who described the old terminal of the MMIA as an eyesore, directed FAAN to make use of the new terminal since that is what is available until the old one has been worked on.
Although the new terminal, so far is ready to handle only smaller aircraft like the Boeing 737s or Airbus 320s, but lacks capacity for the bigger aircraft type in the range of the A310, A330, B777 B747 and above.
However, FAAN confirmed that it has redirected processing of passengers through the New International Terminal, with immediate effect.
A statement issued on Thursday, signed by the Director, Public Affairs & Consumer Protection, Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, explained that the expedited relocation to the New International Terminal at MMIA was deemed necessary, due to the unfortunate fire incident that occurred at the International Terminal 1 on Wednesday.
“We intend to make this movement as seamless as possible but appeal to all travellers to please be at the airport early enough to complete their check-in formalities on time in order not to miss their flight.”
