November 16, (THEWILL) – The Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal has fixed Friday, November 17 for judgement in an appeal filed by the Governor of Kano State and candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Abba Yusuf.
Yusuf is praying the court to set aside the judgment of the Kano State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, which on September 20, sacked him and declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nasiru Gawuna, winner of the March 18 governorship election in Kano State.
The Governor had through his counsel, Wole Olanipekun (SAN), argued that the deduction of over 165,000 of his votes over non-signing of the back of ballot papers was unknown to law.
He further contended that it was the first time a political party would file a matter without joining its candidate as a party in the petition and the candidate would be declared winner of the polls.
On his part, the APC candidate had argued through his Counsel, Akin Olujimi (SAN), that the non-signing of ballots amounted to electoral malpractice. He prayed the court to uphold the tribunal’s judgement.
One of the lawyers of the appellants, Bashir Tudunwuzirchi, confirmed the date of the judgement, saying the court had officially communicated to them.
Ahead of the judgment, the Kano State Police Command said it has deployed its operatives to ensure the safety of lives and property.
