December 27, (THEWILL) – Minister of State Housing and Urban Development, Abdullahi Tijjani Muhammad Gwarzo, has described the death of former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Na’Abba, as a great loss to Nigeria and Democracy.
Gwarzo stated this in a condolence message signed by his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Adamu Abdullahi and distributed to newsmen on Wednesday.
He said the former Speaker would be remembered for his moral and firm belief in true democracy and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant his soul Jannatul Firdausi.
“Ex-Speaker Na’Abba was an icon of true democracy and a parliamentarian par excellence, who championed and defended legislative independence during his time as the Speaker of the House of Representatives,” the Minister said.
He also said that the late Speaker was a true Democrat, who believed in the rule of law and participatory democracy by the electorates within the powers of the constitution.
During the deceased’s tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives and beyond, Na’ Abba was committed to promoting and defending democratic norms, he said.
“He was a patriotic Nigerian, who dedicated his life to the development of our dear nation”, he said further.
Gwarzo, therefore, commiserated with the Na’Abba family, Kano State and Nigeria over the Ex-speaker’s demise and prayed to Almighty Allah to grant his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Na’Abba died in Abuja, on Wednesday, at the age of 65 and was buried in Kano after a funeral prayer led by the Chief Imam of Kano, Professor Sani Zahraddeen, at the Emir’s Palace.
It was attended by thousands of people including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso.
