July 24, (THEWILL) – Some residents of Enugu State have filed out, in protest against continuous enforcement of Monday Sit-at-Home by Samuel Ekpa-led faction of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the state.
The State Governor, Peter Mbah had on June 5, banned Monday’s sit-at-home in the state and urged residents to go about their legitimate duties.
But the Sit-at-Home order has persisted as markets and schools are forced by hoodlums to obey the directive.
But on Monday, armed with placards with various inscriptions, ”Enough is Enough”; “Say no to Sit at Home in Enugu” and “Enugu people must be freed from the shackles of those who want to hold it down” among others, protesters led by their coordinators, Oninye Mammah, Bismark Oji, Charles Ogbu, Eberechukwu Anigbo, lamented that the sit-at-home had inflicted unimaginable pains and has paralysed economic activities in the entire South East.
They also sang solidarity songs in support of Governor Mbah and against the sit-at-home as they marched through major roads and streets and converged on Michael Okpara Square.
The residents marched around the state capital to encourage the people to return to their Monday businesses.
