September 07, (THEWILL) – At least 17 governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), including governorship flag-bearer in Jigawa State, Mustapha Sule Lamido, have visited Governor Nyesom Wike at his Private residence in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on Tuesday.

The candidates, who arrived Port Harcourt at about 8 pm Tuesday evening, were welcomed by Wike at his private residence on Ada George road, Rumueprikon, suburb of Port Harcourt, where they held a closed door meeting.

While details of the meeting remained sketchy, THEWILL learnt that it was not unconnected to the ongoing crisis within the party.

A top party source closed to one of the candidates, said the meeting was to persuade the Rivers governor to mend fences with the party and Atiku Abubakar.

The governor has been having a running battle with the leadership of PDP and its Presidential Candidate, Atiku Abubakar, over the refusal of the party to honour the agreement that if a presidential candidate comes from the northern part of the country, the National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, will relinquish his position to a Southern person.
