August 08, (THEWILL) – Super Falcons coach, Randy Waldrum, has indicated his eagerness to continue as manager of Nigeria’s national women’s soccer team beyond the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
THEWILL recalls that Waldrum’s contract expires after the tournament, though the Nigeria Football Federation has yet to comment on extending the American’s tenure. Nigeria suffered a heartbreaking penalty shootout defeat to England in the World Cup round of 16 on Monday, in Brisbane. However, Waldrum believes this is a team on the rise, stating: “They’ve been fantastic the whole tournament. We’ve not lost a game realistically.”
Despite their disappointing exit, Waldrum praised his players for an “exceptional tournament performance.” In a post-match press conference, he noted: “We’ve played against the Olympic gold medallists (Canada), the European champions and we kept a clean sheet in both of those games.” The performance against England was a resilient display that showcased Nigeria’s best form in the competition.

With Nigeria demonstrating their potential on the global stage, manager Waldrum appears enthusiastic about continuing to develop the Super Falcons beyond the 2023 World Cup. Indeed, his intimate knowledge of the squad and their tactical shape at the tournament could prove invaluable if the NFF decides to extend his tenure.
