November 6, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has announced his approval of the establishment of the long-awaited Ibom Deep Seaport in Akwa Ibom State, describing the project as a major economic investment that will create new opportunities and accelerate development in the state and the country.
Tinubu made the announcement on Friday during his official visit to Akwa Ibom, where he inaugurated the new international terminal building of Victor Attah International Airport, Uyo, and addressed a large crowd at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.
The President said the Federal Government was committed to making the deep seaport project a reality, stressing that it would unlock the state’s economic potential, attract investments and create employment opportunities.
“Your governor requested for international airport status for your airport, I have approved. Your Ibom Deep Seaport is also approved,” Tinubu declared.
He assured the people that his administration would provide the necessary support to ensure the realisation of the project, which was initiated under the administration of former Governor Victor Attah but has suffered prolonged delays.
The President also urged Akwa Ibom youths to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and vote massively for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election, arguing that continuity in governance was necessary to sustain the country’s development.
“Have you seen the progress and development? I will depend on you to vote for the APC. Your weapon is your PVC. I assure you of a better future, good education, skill development and jobs,” he said.

Tinubu, who described his visit as a homecoming, recalled his professional years in Akwa Ibom when he worked as an auditor with Mobil, noting that his experience in the state had given him a longstanding connection with its people.
He commended Governor Umo Eno for sustaining the vision behind the international airport terminal, particularly acknowledging his administration’s efforts in securing presidential approval for international flight operations.
“Governor Umo Eno, you are a great man of conscience, commitment and vision for continuing this airport and making it a reality today. When you approached me for permission to grant international flight operations, I didn’t hesitate. I read the memo and gave my consent,” the President said.

Earlier, Tinubu formally inaugurated the international terminal building of Victor Attah International Airport by cutting the ceremonial tape.
He also commissioned the airport hospital, Ibom Aviation Village and the Nsit Atai-Okobo Road as part of the infrastructure projects showcased during his visit.

They were received by Governor Eno, Akpabio, Deputy Governor Akon Eyakenyi, Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Udeme Otong, and other political and government leaders.
