September 16, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer Tems has reached another major streaming milestone as her debut studio album, ‘Born in the Wild’, surpasses 1 billion streams on Spotify.
The achievement makes the album the ninth Nigerian project to reach the billion-stream mark on the platform. It is also only the second project by a Nigerian female artist to cross the milestone.
Tems now joins Ayra Starr, whose second studio album, ‘The Year I Turned 21’, was her first project to surpass the 1 billion-stream mark and has since accumulated more than 1.44 billion streams on Spotify.
‘Born in the Wild’ was released on June 7, 2024, as Tems’ debut studio album. The 18-track project was released through RCA Records and Since ’93 and features collaborations with Asake on ‘Get It Right’ and J. Cole on ‘Free Fall’.
The album also includes popular solo tracks such as ‘Me & U’, ‘Love Me JeJe’, ‘Burning’ and ‘Wickedest’. Its lead single, ‘Me & U’, has also continued to perform strongly on streaming platforms.
Before crossing 1 billion streams, ‘Born in the Wild’ had already established itself among the most-streamed Nigerian projects on Spotify. In June 2026, the album surpassed 919 million streams and moved into ninth place among Nigerian projects on the platform, overtaking Asake’s ‘Mr Money With The Vibe’.

The latest milestone reflects the album’s continued streaming performance more than two years after its release. It also adds to Tems’ growing list of career achievements and highlights the international reach of her music.
The album has also earned major recognition since its release. ‘Love Me JeJe’, one of its singles, won Best African Music Performance at the 2025 Grammy Awards, giving Tems her second Grammy. ‘Born in the Wild’ was also nominated for Best Global Music Album, while ‘Burning’ received a nomination for Best R&B Song.
Tems previously won her first Grammy in 2023 for Best Melodic Rap Performance, adding to her growing list of international achievements.
The milestone further cements ‘Born in the Wild’ among Nigeria’s most successful albums on Spotify and adds another major achievement to Tems’ career.
