The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has defended the exclusion of some governorship candidates from the final list for the 2027 elections, declaring that political parties which failed to comply with the membership-register provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 cannot sponsor candidates.

The Kano State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has urged its members to remain calm following the omission of its governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Gwarzo, from the final list of candidates released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The lists published on the INEC website on Saturday omitted the names of governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party for Ogun and Gombe states, Ladi Adebutu and Isa Ali Pantami, respectively. Among the 13 candidates in Ogun and 16 in Gombe, none of them are from the PDP.
