April 18, (THEWILL) – Talented singer, Divine Ikubor, professionally known as Rema, has pleaded with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), to call off its ongoing strike.
ASUU had on February 14, declared a one month warning strike to declare the non implementation of its demand by the federal government.
But on March 14, the union extended the industrial action by eight weeks, citing the federal government’s failure to fully address their demands.
In a tweet on Monday, Rema said he has not resumed school since he got admission to study Creative Arts at the University of Lagos.
“ASUU, since them give me admission, I neva start school oo. E don do nau.”
In January, the Marvin record singer had disclosed that his decision to return to school was based on his mother’s insistence that he should get a degree.
Rema has continued to pull the string in the music landscape with his talent.
In 2020, the singer recalled how his mother’s support was essential after he lost his father and brother.
“I had to work hard because I lost my father and my brother and things were only left to me. So, I had to put things in place. I did a lot of jobs like working at a beach in Ghana.
“Hard work got me this shape. At first, it was really hard for me. I cried and was really sad. When I got back to Nigeria, I had to appreciate my mom for being strong, so I had to get her a car.
“I was tired of seeing her trekking everyday. She didn’t even have money to use to enter public transport or motorcycle. Even though I had no car of my own then, I had to buy my mom a car.”
