September 14, (THEWILL) – Nigerian comedian Anita Asuoha, popularly known as Real Warri Pikin, has apologized after a video of her playful stage moment with singer Timaya sparked reactions on social media.
The comedian was in the United States for the AFRIMMA Awards when she joined Timaya on stage during his performance of “Ukwu.”
In the widely shared video, Real Warri Pikin jumped on the singer as they continued with the performance.
The moment quickly sparked debate online, with some social media users describing the performance as inappropriate for a married woman, while others defended it as part of a live entertainment act and said it should not be taken beyond the stage.
Addressing the reactions, Real Warri Pikin explained that she had been backstage enjoying the show when Timaya called for a woman to join him on stage.
She said she did not initially realize that the performance involved the woman jumping on Timaya and was reluctant to take part. However, she eventually joined him after the singer encouraged her not to disrupt his performance.
According to the comedian, the moment felt funny and entertaining while it was happening, but she was surprised by the reaction after the video surfaced online.
Real Warri Pikin said some of her “online in-laws” even told her to leave her marriage over the incident. She described some of the comments as excessive but said she decided to apologize because she understood that some people felt the behaviour was out of character for her.
“Area, abeg make una no vex for me. I take full responsibility. Make una forgive me.” she said.
The comedian also brought her husband, Ikechukwu, into the conversation, joking that he could be upset with her because he was in Nigeria while she was in the United States.
“Like this now, Ikechukwu dey vex for me. You know say I dey America, e too far. I want this marriage o. Where una wan put me? I plaster for the marriage,” she said.
“Make una take am easy abeg. No be how una dey see am. Na me put myself for this. I take full responsibility for my actions. I no go try am again. That was out of character, no be me be that. I no go try am again. Abeg,” she added.

Much of the discussion has also focused on Real Warri Pikin’s marriage to Ikechukwu. The couple have been married for more than a decade and have continued to publicly support each other and their family.
The controversy comes shortly after another major achievement in Real Warri Pikin’s career.
The comedian recently won the Best Stand-Up Comedian award at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards (AFRIMMA), held in Dallas, Texas, on Saturday, September 12. She announced the win on social media, celebrating the recognition alongside other African entertainers.
Real Warri Pikin has also continued to build her international audience. Earlier this year, she took her “In My Element” comedy tour to Dallas and Houston, performing for audiences in the United States.
While the comedian has apologized and promised not to repeat the incident, the video continues to generate conversation online.
