September 05, (THEWILL) — Saturday’s Premier League action produced goals, late drama and several warning signs as Matchweek 3 gathered pace.
Seven matches were played across the day, with Crystal Palace producing the comeback of the afternoon at Fulham, Manchester City maintaining their 100 per cent start and Newcastle United rescuing a point from a difficult position against Bournemouth.
The results also highlighted early problems for several clubs, with Tottenham Hotspur still without a league goal, Aston Villa yet to score and Fulham suffering a third consecutive defeat.
Palace Complete Dramatic Fulham Comeback
Crystal Palace produced the day’s standout result by recovering from behind twice to beat Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage.
Fulham took the lead through Josh King in the 11th minute before Tyrick Mitchell levelled for Palace 24 minutes later.
César Palacios restored the hosts’ advantage shortly before half-time, but Mitchell struck again in the 54th minute to make it 2-2.
The decisive moment came in the 77th minute when Ben Chilwell, making his first appearance since returning to Palace, volleyed home to complete the turnaround.
Fulham dominated possession and created plenty of opportunities but were punished for failing to turn their control into a result.
The defeat leaves Álvaro Arbeloa’s side without a point after three matches, while Palace secured their first league victory under Pierre Sage.
Newcastle Rescue Point as Bournemouth Make Unwanted History
Newcastle United came from two goals down to draw 2-2 with Bournemouth at St James’ Park.
Marcus Tavernier opened the scoring in the ninth minute before Malick Thiaw’s own goal doubled Bournemouth’s advantage.
Harvey Barnes immediately pulled one back before half-time, and substitute Jacob Ramsey completed Newcastle’s comeback with an 88th-minute equaliser.
The result extended Matthias Jaissle’s unbeaten start as Newcastle manager, while Bournemouth were left frustrated once again after failing to protect a winning position.
The Cherries have now become the first team in Premier League history to score first in each of their opening three matches of a season without winning any of them.

Manchester City made it three wins from three with a 1-0 victory over newly promoted Coventry City at the Etihad Stadium.
Erling Haaland scored the only goal of the game in the 26th minute, heading in from Enzo Fernández’s cross on the Argentine midfielder’s City debut.
The victory was not entirely comfortable, however, as Coventry threatened during the closing stages and forced City to defend their narrow advantage.
Haaland’s goal was also a landmark moment, taking the striker to 300 career goals in top-flight club football.
Brighton Held as Leeds Remain Unbeaten
Brighton & Hove Albion and Leeds United played out a 1-1 draw at the Amex Stadium.
Leeds took the lead after 15 minutes when Jayden Bogle finished a well-worked move, but Brighton eventually found a response through Luka Vušković, who headed home from a corner.
Brighton controlled much of the possession but Leeds remained dangerous and held on for a valuable point that keeps Daniel Farke’s side unbeaten after three matches. Brighton also remain unbeaten and sit on four points.
Spurs Still Waiting for First Goal
Tottenham Hotspur’s difficult start under Roberto De Zerbi continued with a goalless draw against Nottingham Forest.
Forest thought they had taken the lead in the second half when Neco Williams found the net, but the goal was ruled out following a VAR review for handball.
Spurs eventually secured their first point of the campaign, but the bigger concern remains their attack. Tottenham have now failed to score in all three league matches this season, while the draw extended their wait for a first victory.
Hull Frustrate Goal-Shy Villa
Aston Villa were held to another 0-0 draw by newly promoted Hull City, leaving Unai Emery’s side still without a league goal after three matches.
Hull, meanwhile, continue to impress. The Tigers have now kept three consecutive clean sheets and collected seven points from their opening three games.
Mohamed Belloumi came closest to breaking the deadlock for the hosts when his second-half effort struck the crossbar, while Villa struggled to convert their possession into clear-cut chances.
Brentford and Sunderland Share the Spoils
Brentford and Sunderland also played out a 1-1 draw at the Gtech Community Stadium.
Vitaly Janelt put Brentford ahead in the 57th minute with a powerful finish, but Sunderland responded late when Enzo Le Fée converted from the penalty spot.
The result means Brentford remain unbeaten after three matches, while Sunderland continue to show the defensive resilience that helped them establish themselves in the Premier League.
