June 16, (THEWILL) – Paul Pogba has hit out at Manchester United’s “nothing” contract proposals, claiming he wants to prove the club made a “mistake” by not offering him the kind of deal he and his agent, the late Mino Raiola, thought he was worth.
It is possibly the most memorable phrase from the forthcoming “Pogmentary”, which will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on June 17 and will detail, among other things, the Frenchman’s final months at United and the decision-making process surrounding his future as he becomes a free agent at the end of June, five years after becoming the world’s most expensive player when he joined United from Juventus for £89 million.
Despite two proposals reported to be worth more than his current £290,000-per-week deal, the player and the club were unable to reach an agreement on a new contract.
In the documentary, Pogba says: “My thought process is to show Manchester that they made a mistake in waiting to give me a contract…and to show other clubs that Manchester had made a mistake in not offering me a contract.
Raiola, who died in April after a long illness, said at the time: “They absolutely want you to stay. For me, the [contract] offer doesn’t reflect that. I told them, ‘If you want him to stay, don’t make that offer’. I will make them understand that if they really want you to stay and they want to build a project around you, this time they have to act differently and put the money on the table.”
Pogba’s implication that two offers reportedly worth more than his previous contract are “nothing” is unlikely to warm the hearts of United fans as he leaves the club again.
