September 07, (THEWILL) — The battle over the outcome of the August 15, 2026 Osun State governorship election has moved to the courtroom, with the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) filing separate petitions challenging the re-election of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The two petitions were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally setting the legal machinery in motion.
The display of the petitions followed confirmation by the Secretary of the Tribunal, Pefe Belemore, that petitions challenging the outcome of the election had been filed.
Belemore had earlier confirmed that the required notices would be displayed on the tribunal’s notice board before noon on Monday.
At the opening of the tribunal earlier in the day, Belemore was present in the courtroom alongside other officials of the secretariat as preparations were made for the commencement of the proceedings.

Two Separate Challenges
The APC’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/01/2026, was filed by its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji.
The respondents listed in the APC petition are Governor Adeleke, the Accord Party and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The PDP’s petition, marked EPT/OS/GOV/02/2026, was filed by Adebayo Olugbenga Adedamola.
Adedamola’s petition names Governor Adeleke, INEC and the Accord Party as respondents.
Governor Adeleke emerged as the winner of the August 15 governorship election and secured another term in office. Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat Oyebamiji, who scored 444,815 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had on August 20, presented Adeleke and his deputy, Kola Adewusi, with their Certificates of Return in Osogbo, formally confirming their re-election for another four-year term.
