Oyeyemi, who was an ally of Governor Ademola Adeleke, was reportedly killed while attending a meeting convened as part of efforts to resolve the lingering dispute between rival factions over the control and management of motor parks in the state.

The dramatic withdrawal followed an internal disagreement over the petition, with one group of lawyers representing the APC insisting that the party had authorised the legal challenge, while another legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Abiodun Layonu, had earlier disowned the suit.

The development has triggered a fresh controversy over the post-election process in Osun State, coming after the APC candidate had congratulated Adeleke and the party's legal team had resolved not to challenge the election result in court.

The two petitions were displayed on the notice board of the Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal Secretariat in Osogbo on Monday, formally setting the legal machinery in motion.
