July 02, (THEWILL) – Super Falcons and Barcelona Femeni star, Asisat Oshoala, who has been recovering from an injury sustained weeks ago, has provided a significant boost to the Nigerian national team, ahead of the 2023 FIFA World Cup.
Oshoala confirmed her availability for the tournament during a send-forth event in Abuja. She had been sidelined since May, after suffering a hamstring problem while playing in Spain. Her return is eagerly awaited by both the Super Falcons and Nigerian fans.
Barcelona Femeni, who recently won the Women’s Champions League against Wolfsburg, sorely missed Oshoala’s presence during the final. Her absence was due to the hamstring discomfort she experienced, which has kept her off the pitch ever since. Concerns were raised regarding her availability for the upcoming FIFA Women’s World Cup in New Zealand and Australia.
However, the African Footballer of the Year allayed fears by assuring fans that she would be ready to participate in the global event, stating: “As far as I know, I will be ready before the World Cup kicks off.”
Despite her injury setback, Asisat Oshoala remains a key figure in the Super Falcons squad. Head coach, Randy Waldrum, included her in the 23-woman roster for the tournament. With her remarkable track record and five-time African Footballer of the Year accolades, Oshoala’s presence on the field is highly anticipated by her teammates and supporters alike, as she aims to lead Nigeria to better outing than at the previous World Cup.
