Nobody Will Intimidate Me, Impeachment Not Military Coup – Wike To PDP Govs

November 01, (THEWILL) – Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says he cannot be intimidated over the political structure he fought hard to build in Rivers State, saying impeachment is a constitutional provision and not a military coup.

Wike spoke on Wednesday, after a closed-door meeting with members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, led by the chairman and governor of Bauchi state, Bala Mohammed.

Mohammed was accompanied to the minister’s office by the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, the Governor of Plateau State, Caleb Muftwang, and the Governor of Taraba State, Agbu Kefas.

THEWILL had earlier reported that the political crisis in Rivers State degenerated on Monday, after 24 members of the State House of Assembly, allegedly acting on the order of the FCT Minister, signed an impeachment notice on Governor Siminalaye Fubara.

While the crisis degenerated, Governor Fubara had said any unjustified action against him would be resisted. He insisted that he had done nothing wrong to warrant plots of impeachment by the state lawmakers.

However, Wike, while addressing the PDP governors, said he would not be intimidated, noting that impeachment moves were not equivalent to a military coup, but were a provision in the 1999 Constitution.

“Nobody can intimidate me. If I want to do something, I will do it. Impeachment is not a military coup; it is provided under the Constitution.

“I’m not interested in all the rumours, money, this, and that. Rubbish. Absolute rubbish. I just left office how many months ago? And I’m FCT Minister, so which money?

“But nobody can take away our political structure. No one. You cannot work and people will begin to bring enemies, those who fought you when you were struggling for the person to be in office. Nobody does that. I’m not a political ingrate, but don’t touch the political structure of the state. I will not shut my eyes”, he said.

Meanwhile, Governor Fubara has expressed optimism that the political crisis in Rivers State will be resolved.

Speaking on Wednesday, when the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, led a military delegation to the Government House in Port Harcourt, Fubara said there is nothing wrong with a father and a son having problems, stressing that all issues, if any, will be resolved.

“For our dear state, I know everybody is wondering what’s going on, what’s not going on. We are okay, there is no problem. If we have an internal issue, it will be resolved and everything will go back to normal.

“There is nothing wrong if a father and a son have a problem if there is any problem, but I don’t think there is anything, whatever it is, we will definitely resolve the issue”, he said.

The Governor restated President Bola Tinubu’s resolve for peace and security in the country, especially during the off-season elections this month.
