Nigeria Gets Palliative Funds From FIFA, Says Amaju Pinnick, NFF President

SAN FRANCISCO, October 06, (THEWILL) – The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Melvin Pinnick, has taken to Twitter to announce that the NFF is expecting more funds from the World Football governing body FIFA as part of the palliative measures the Association is handing out to help countries cope with the hardships occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

THEWILL learnt that the NFF recently received $500,000 as part of the total sum of the palliative which the Federation has already earmarked for the development of the Women’s game. What this implies is that the funds can be used for that purpose only. Pinnick noted that another $500,000 is expected soon in a second batch of payment while a third of $500,000 should come in January 2021.

The President said Nigeria is expecting some financial backing from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as well. $300,000 of the $500,000 that will come from CAF, THEWILL discovered, will be added to the NFF’s palliative funds approved by its Executive Committee. The balance of $200,000 will remain intact, according to Pinnick.

The Federation president was quick to dispel rumours that alleged that the full sum had already been paid. He denounced these allegations saying they did nothing but undermine what the Federation was doing its utmost to achieve.
