EMIR OF GWOZA, ALHAJI MOHAMMED IDRISSA TIMTA

BEVERLY HILLS, August 12, (THEWILL) -Indications emerged Tuesday that the Emir of Gwoza, Alhaji Mohammed Idrissa Timta, is hale and hearty and may have been relaxing in a safe place.
His whereabouts became unknown following Boko Haram’s attack and subsequent seizure of Gwoza last week thus fuelling the fears that he may have been abducted by the insurgents.
Rumours were rife that the Emir, who was installed about three months ago after his father, the late Emir, Alhaji Shehu Idrissa Timta, was killed in a highway siege by Boko Haram insurgents, was held hostage in one of Gwoza mountains.
He was however said to have escaped from his abductors alongside other hostages Sunday night due to the heavy downpour which made their captors to relaxed the security around them.
The Emir and one of his district heads were said to have escaped during the heavy rain with others to Madagali in Adamawa State.
He was also said to be preparing to travel to Yola, the Adamawa State capital where he is expected to catch a flight to Abuja in order for him to undergo medical checkup after his ordeal.
But dismissing the rumour on Tuesday, the member representing Borno South at the Senate, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, said the Emir was never abducted .
“He (the Emir) was never abducted. But we have moved him to a safer place. I can assure you that he is safe. Thanks for the concern,” Ndume said.
Ndume’s claim was corroborated by a member, representing Gwoza constituency in the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Ahmed Jaha . “He was in Guduf community at the top of the mountain and now I am with him,” Jaha, who , however , did not mention the whereabouts of the Emir, said, adding, “He is okay with me in one of the state capitals of the Northeast.”
