August 19, (THEWILL) — Nigerian rapper Naeto C has opened up about the amount of work that went into developing his sound before the release of his popular song, “Ki Ni Big Deal”.
Speaking during a recent interview, the rapper revealed that he had recorded more than 100 songs before arriving at the track, describing the process as demanding but important in refining his skills.
“I had a very draining, tedious, meticulous process which over time got refined. Even prior to arriving at a song like ‘Ki Ni Big Deal’, I had done like over 100 different songs”, Naeto C said.
He explained that repeatedly making music helped him improve and become more confident in his craft.
“The law of repetition, you know, the more you repeat something, the better you get at it,” he said.
Released in 2008, “Ki Ni Big Deal” became one of Naeto C’s defining records and helped strengthen his position in Nigeria’s hip-hop scene.
The rapper, whose career took off in the mid-2000s, went on to release several other notable songs, including “U Know My P,” “Share My Blessings,” “5 and 6” and “Ten Over Ten.” He also became known for collaborations with some of the biggest names in Nigerian music, including D’banj, MI Abaga, Banky W and P-Square.
Looking back at the early stages of his career, Naeto C was asked whether he was competing with other artists to keep himself sharp.
He said he did not see anyone as his direct competition because he believed his approach and background were different from those of his peers.

“I was competing with absolutely no one, because no one was doing what I was doing, no one came from where I came from”, he said.
Naeto C also reflected on what he would change if he could return to his younger years.
“One thing I wish my younger self did differently was probably document better, to have more content of certain moments,” he said.
His comments offer a glimpse into the work behind one of his best-known records and the years of practice that helped shape his career.
For Naeto C, “Ki Ni Big Deal” was not simply the result of one successful recording, but part of a much longer process of experimenting, repeating and refining his craft.
