August 12, (THEWILL) — Afrobeats superstar, Davido, has sparked debate among music fans after challenging any artist who believes they have more hit songs than him to a $1 million hit-for-hit battle.
The singer made the bold declaration in a now-viral clip from a livestream on Tuesday, August 11.
Davido said he was willing to put the money down against anyone confident enough to challenge his catalogue.
“I’ll put up a million dollars. Yes sir. I’ll do it versus anybody. A million dollars in cash. Nobody got more hits than me”, he said.
The comment has sparked a fresh debate among fans over the strongest catalogue, with some focusing on the number of hits while others consider longevity, cultural impact, influence and success across different eras.

Reactions from Social Media
@DanielRegha backed Olamide, arguing that the rapper’s influence extends beyond his own music.
“Olamide has not only dominated the music game for years now but also played a pivotal role in the rise of artistes; Like Lil Kesh, Asake, Adekunle Gold, Fireboy, Zlatan, Bella, and many more”, Regha wrote.
“When it comes to hit songs, that is, songs that actually have lyrical quality, no artist from his era can go toe to toe with him. Comparing him with colleagues who started before, or after him is beyond disrespectful.”
He also highlighted Olamide’s longevity, street influence and record-label success, arguing that these factors should count in any comparison of Nigeria’s biggest artistes.
“Which other artist has that longevity, street impact, successful record label, and can be linked to the success of rising stars? He is one of one”, he added.
Music fan @Teeniiola also weighed in, acknowledging Davido’s strength as a hitmaker while backing Olamide and Wizkid in a potential battle.
“Davido can compete when it comes to hit for hit, no doubt, but he cannot lace the shoes of Olamide or Wizkid. Wizkid and Olamide are the two I see going head-to-head where I genuinely can’t say who would win. But when it comes to Davido, Olamide is definitely bagging that $1M,” @Teeniiola wrote.
Some fans backed Davido’s claim, with @Calabar_Sheriff writing: “That one no be lie sha. OBO album no dey too sharp sometimes but If na hit songs…..leave am for am.”
