August 07, (THEWILL) — Afrobeats star Davido and former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad have engaged in a heated exchange on X after a political discussion surrounding the Osun State governorship election shifted into a debate about music, achievements, and public influence.
The disagreement began after Davido reacted to President Bola Tinubu’s intervention in the dispute involving the freezing of Osun State government accounts.
Davido, whose uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election as Osun State governor, said he witnessed the conversation between the President and the governor.
Ahmad responded by saying he had bookmarked Davido’s post and suggested the singer would return online to complain if the election result did not favour his preferred candidate.

The comment prompted a sharp response from Davido, who accused some politicians of manipulating election outcomes.
The exchange became more personal when the singer mocked Ahmad over his performance in a previous political primary election, writing, “You got 16 votes bro in primaries.”
Ahmad later shifted the conversation to Davido’s music career, questioning the singer’s Grammy record despite his multiple nominations.
“Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair,” Ahmad wrote.
Ahmad later shared a photo of South African singer Tyla holding her Grammy award with the caption, “Water. @davido.”
Responding to the Grammy remarks, Davido dismissed the focus on awards, arguing that success should also be measured by global influence, sold-out concerts, and the ability to connect with audiences worldwide.
“You measure success by one award. I measure it by sold-out arenas, billions of streams, global influence, and people singing my songs across continents,” Davido wrote.
The singer also criticized Ahmad’s political record, claiming he failed to create enough impact in his community despite serving in government.

“You had government backing and still couldn’t convince enough people to back you in your small constituency. You’re a small boy who came into politics by accident.
“You spent 8 years with the ex-president and couldn’t make a change in your poverty-stricken community.
“We all have different trophies, Bashir. I’ll keep inspiring the young ones and generations to come while you wait for the next government job to get crumbs,” Davido wrote.
Social Media Reactions
The exchange generated reactions on X, with some users criticising Ahmad for turning a political discussion into a personal attack on Davido’s music career.
@sumda_jr questioned Ahmad’s response, writing:
“I wonder what Bashir Ahmad has been trying to defend. Can’t someone complain about the condition of the country without somebody trying to debunk it?”
@Real_Korrency criticised Ahmad’s political record, saying:
“Presidential aide who can’t even aide himself to win his small constituency. I wonder what he has been aiding the president with all those eight years.”
@archie_lochie focused on Ahmad’s time in government, writing:
