September 02, (THEWILL) — Lionel Richie remains hospitalized in a St. Louis intensive care unit as doctors continue testing him for possible cardiac-related issues, according to TMZ.
The 77-year-old music icon checked himself into the hospital on Saturday, August 29, shortly after performing at The Muny in Forest Park.
His decision to seek medical attention came after he appeared to struggle during the final part of the concert.
Concertgoers reportedly noticed Richie leaning on a piano during the closing portion of the show.
He also asked his team to bring him a chair before performing “All Night Long” while seated.
Richie initially went to the hospital as a precaution, with early reports indicating that doctors were checking him for possible dehydration.
However, medical teams later expanded their evaluation to include cardiac-related concerns.
According to TMZ, Richie remains in the ICU while doctors carry out the tests.
Sources familiar with his condition say he is doing okay and is expected to be discharged and fly home on Wednesday, September 2.
The latest health concern comes just over two months after Richie experienced another medical scare during his tour.
On June 24, he became dizzy during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. The incident forced him to cut the performance short after he told the audience that he was feeling strange.
Richie was taken to a hospital for evaluation following that incident.
Two additional shows were later postponed after doctors advised him to rest and return to full health.
He returned to performing on June 30 and later reassured fans that he was doing well. The singer thanked supporters for their messages and said he was grateful for their concern.
Richie is currently touring with Earth, Wind & Fire on the “Sing a Song All Night Long” tour. His next scheduled performance is September 26, 2026, in San Francisco.
