February 04, (THEWILL) – Aston Villa faced Leicester City in a thrilling five-goal first half match, which resulted in Leicester coming out as 4-2 winners with a man-of-the-match display by Kelechi Iheanacho.
Villa went ahead early in the game with a goal from Ollie Watkins, but Leicester quickly equalised through James Maddison with Iheanacho’s assist. Villa regained the lead with a goal from Harry Souttar, but Iheanacho levelled the scoreline. Tete then put Leicester ahead just before half-time, taking advantage of an error by Boubacar Kamara from another Iheanacho assist.
The second half saw Unai Emery make changes, with Philippe Coutinho and Alex Moreno replacing Jacob Ramsey and Lucas Digne. Villa tried hard to equalise but were held off by solid defensive play from Leicester.
The Foxes added to their lead when Harvey Barnes scored, taking advantage of a mistake by Moreno. The match ended with a 2-4 victory for Leicester, giving them their first win after conceding the opening goal in the English Premier League since the end of last season.
The Foxes now rise to 13th in the EPL, while Villa stay in 11th place. Leicester will host Spurs on Saturday while Villa travel to Etihad to face Manchester City the following day. Despite the loss, Aston Villa still look better under Unai Emery, and Leicester will hope to continue their positive performance.
