February 24, (THEWILL) – Harry Kane once again proved to be clutch for Bayern Munich, scoring a late 91st-minute winner to end the club’s recent poor run of form with a 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig.
In front of an expectant home crowd at the Allianz Arena, Kane rose to head home a superb last-gasp goal to claim a vital three points, keeping Bayern within eight points of Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
The match started promisingly for the home side, with Kane forcing an early save in the opening minutes. However, Bayern struggled to build momentum in the first half, frequently giving away possession much to the frustration of the demanding home supporters who jeered the players off at half-time.
Leipzig grew into the game after the break and finally tested veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer through shots from Amadou Haidara and Mohamed Simakan. However, against the run of play, the prolific Kane brilliantly slotted home on 56 minutes after being played through by Jamal Musiala to give Bayern a 1-0 lead.
Neuer underlined his enduring quality soon after by denying substitute Benjamin Sesko with a phenomenal save, although the Slovenian made amends by scoring a 70th-minute equaliser to set up a tense finale. As the game headed towards a draw, super-sub Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting laid on a chance for Kane to rifle in a 91st-minute winner, sparking euphoric celebrations.
The dramatic late victory ended a run of three straight defeats for Bayern against Leipzig and kept some pressure on high-flying Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga as the season headed towards its final third.
