January 27, (THEWILL) – On Monday, Everton announced the departure of Frank Lampard, as the club’s head coach, following a string of poor results. Lampard, who took over the club last year, had just presided over a 2-0 defeat to West Ham, which left the team in 19th place in the English Premier League with only three wins this season.
Lampard has now expressed his disappointment at leaving Goodison Park, but also his pride at helping the club avoid relegation last season. In a statement posted on social media, Lampard said: “I will always be proud of the incredible work and support from everyone involved to keep the team in the Premier League last season.
“Thanks to everybody that played their part as the whole club came together. I will never forget the incredible night against Palace that we shared.”
As the club is in search of a successor, Marcelo Bielsa, former Leeds United manager, was spotted arriving in London for talks with Everton. The club is also said to be considering other candidates including Sean Dyche, former Burnley manager and Davide Ancelotti, son of former Everton coach, Carlo Ancelotti.
The club aims to make a decision before the weekend and have a new coach in place before their next match against Arsenal on February 4th.
