April 25, (THEWILL) – Former deputy governor of Ondo State, Agboola Ajayi, has emerged as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 16 governorship election.
Ajayi served as deputy governor between 2017 and 2021 in the first term administration of late governor Rotimi Akeredolu.
In a primary election of the party held on Thursday, at the International Culture and Events Center, Akure, Ajayi polled 264 votes to defeat six other aspirants, including a former member of the House of Representatives, Kolade Akinjo, who came second with 157 votes.
Chairman of the PDP Primary Election committee, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjajpo, who declared Ajayi the winner, also said Otunba Bamidele Akingboye scored 24 votes, Adeolu Akinwumi garnered 64 votes, Arebuwa Bosun got 2 votes, Ebiseni Olusola got 99 votes, and John Mafo secured 9 votes.
A total of 627 delegates were elected to participate in the primary but 621 delegates were accredited to vote. Two votes were declared invalid.
