April 25, (THEWILL) – Barcelona President, Joan Laporta, announced on Thursday, that Xavi will remain as the club’s manager beyond the current season, reversing his previous plan to step down this summer. The news provides much-needed stability for the Catalan giants as they continue rebuilding under Xavi’s guidance.
“We are pleased that Xavi will continue as coach,” Laporta stated during a press conference. “Stability is essential for successful projects. Xavi’s commitment to Barcelona is unquestionable, as is the staff’s and board’s backing. Maintaining this stability is great news for a project just beginning last year.”
Xavi, who had initially intended to leave when his contract expired in 2024, expressed gratitude towards the club’s hierarchy, players and supporters for convincing him to remain. “When I met the President, I prioritised the club’s interests. The Board, Sports Director and players’ trust were vital, as were the fans making me realise I must continue.”
The former midfield great emphasised his affection for Barcelona, saying: “I’m an enormous fan. I always aim to do what’s best for the club. At first, I thought leaving was right, but this is now the best decision. Let’s work enthusiastically from now on.”
Under Xavi’s managerial guidance this season, Barcelona trail Real Madrid at the top of La Liga by 11 points with four games remaining. His continuation allows them to build upon all the progress they have made, including last season’s domestic crown, with stability and a long-term vision.
