November 17, (THEWILL) – As part of the efforts to foster the growth of sports in Lagos, the Lagos State Para-Athletics Association will organise the Regional Para-Athletics Competition for the Southwest Zone.
Mr. Rafiu Olawale Etti, Chairman of the Lagos State Para-Athletics Association, declared in a statement that the upcoming games were part of the Lagos State Sports Commission’s strategic mandate for the promotion of grassroots sports.
According to the chairman, the competition is aimed at rekindling the hope of the less fortunate through sports, as well as creating an enabling environment for the Athletes to showcase their talents in order to monitor performance progression.
Furthermore, the objective is aimed at using sports as a veritable tool to sustain a positive environment, while continually engaging the Athletes to rechannel productive energy into positive ventures.
Etti stated that the two-day event will be held at the Mainbowl of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Surulere from Thursday, November 18 to Saturday, November 20, 2021, with no less than 100 participants from the Southwest zone expected to attend.
“Participants will compete in T11 Blind race, T12/13 100m, T26/37/38 100m, F40/41 Shotput & Discus, F42/44 Discus and Shotput, T45/46 200m and Shotput, T54 Wheelchair race 100m and 200m, F56/f57 Javelin and Shot Put and F11 Shot Put”, Etti pointed out.
