August 13, (THEWILL) — Lagos has emerged as a major streaming market for South African singer Tyla, ranking as her second-biggest Spotify market globally.
Lagos has 413,057 monthly listeners for the Grammy-winning singer, putting it behind only London, which leads the global list with 478,930 listeners. Johannesburg, Tyla’s hometown, ranks ninth with 207,592 listeners.
The figures make Lagos Tyla’s biggest streaming city in Africa, with more than twice the monthly listeners recorded in Johannesburg. They also highlight the strength of her audience in Nigeria, one of Africa’s biggest music markets.
Nigeria’s influence extends beyond Lagos. Abuja and Port Harcourt also feature among Tyla’s top 25 streaming cities worldwide, giving the country three cities on the list.
The strong Nigerian numbers are part of a wider African footprint. Nairobi in Kenya and Cape Town in South Africa are also among Tyla’s leading African streaming markets, showing the breadth of her appeal across the continent.
Tyla’s success has also translated into major international milestones. With the release of her sophomore album, ‘A*POP’, in July 2026, she became the first African artist to earn two No. 1 albums on the Billboard World Albums chart. Her 2024 self-titled debut, ‘TYLA’, and ‘A*POP’ both reached the top of the chart.

The singer currently has more than 30.8 million monthly listeners on Spotify, while her breakout hit, ‘Water’, has surpassed 1.43 billion streams on the platform.
The streaming numbers are particularly notable following the removal of Lagos from Tyla’s ‘A*POP’ World Tour schedule. Lagos was initially announced as the first African stop on the tour, with a December 22 concert planned before shows in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
The Lagos date was later removed from the schedule amid calls for a boycott linked to renewed concerns over alleged xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in South Africa. Reports said the other African dates remained on the itinerary.
Despite the tour development, Tyla’s streaming data shows the scale of her Nigerian audience. Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt all rank among her biggest streaming cities globally, reinforcing Nigeria’s important role in her continued rise as one of Africa’s leading global music stars.
