BEVERLY HILLS, October 07, (THEWILL) – Two-time Wimbledon champion, 30-year-old Czech player Petra Kvitova reached the last four stage on the clay courts of the French Open for the second time since 2012. What is more admirable is that she is yet to lose a set at this year’s tournament in Paris.
The Czech needed just 80 minutes to see off Laura Siegemund. The World No. 66, Siegemund did not as much as pose a challenge in the opening set. However, she gave a commendable account of herself in the second even with while suffering a lower back problem midway through the set.
Kvitova broke five times in total as she claimed a 6-3 6-3 victory on Court Philippe-Chatrier. She had converted her second match point when her German opponent served a double fault.
In her post-match interview, the Czech was excited, “Right now, it’s my lucky place (Roland Garros), I’m really happy to be here, to play. I really missed it when I was off. I’m happy I’m still able to play and compete with the best.”
She will next meet the American Sofia Kenin who defeated her compatriot Danielle Collins in the other tie in the womens’ game.
