November 09, (THEWILL) – Harry Kane was the hero for Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, as his late brace earned the German giants a 2-1 victory over Galatasaray to secure their place in the last 16 of the Uefa Champions League. Bayern dominated the early proceedings and had a number of chances through Kane, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala but were frustrated by Galatasaray goalkeeper, Fernando Muslera.
The Turkish side grew into the game after the break and even had a goal ruled out for offside before Kane’s clinical finishing secured the three points for Bayern.
The hosts had the better of the early chances with Sane, Kane and Musiala all testing Muslera. Galatasaray almost took a shock lead before half-time when Mauro Icardi forced a save from Manuel Neuer. Bayern upped the tempo in the second half and Kane was denied by the woodwork while substitute Baris Alper Yilmaz headed over the bar for the visitors.
Kane finally made the breakthrough on 80 minutes when he rose highest to head home Joshua Kimmich’s pinpoint free-kick delivery. VAR confirmed the goal stood after initial worries over offside. Kane grabbed his second just six minutes later, slotting home after being teed up by Thomas Muller, following excellent build-up play.
Galatasaray pulled one back deep into stoppage time through Cedric Bakambu but it only served as a consolation. The result means Bayern extend their 100% record in Group A while dealing a blow to Galatasaray’s qualification hopes. Kane’s clinical finishing proved the difference on a night when Bayern’s domination finally paid dividends.
