October 21, (THEWILL) – Franck Ribery’s career has been hailed as “one of the greatest in football” by Bayern Munich CEO, Oliver Kahn, after the Frenchman officially announced his retirement from football.
Ribery’s 22-year career, during which he represented teams like Metz, Galatasaray, Marseille, Fiorentina, and Salernitana, came to an end on Friday, with his announcement. In that period, the 39-year-old spent the majority of his career with Bayern, where he captured nine Bundesliga championships during a 12-year period.
During his stay in Germany, he also won six DFB-Pokal titles, one Champions League, a European Super Cup, and a Club World Cup. Kahn, who played alongside him, spoke with the club’s website about his former teammate saying: Speaking to Bayern’s website as they paid tribute to a club great, describing his as: “One of the greatest careers in football – not just FC Bayern – is coming to an end with Franck Ribery.
“I had the fortune to play together with him and could see clearly from my goal how he excited our fans with his attacking play at the other end of the pitch. Franck was a rogue on the pitch, something very special, stood for cunning. FC Bayern is proud to have had him in its ranks for over 10 years and to have won the biggest titles with him.”
In 425 appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga team, Ribery recorded 124 goals and 182 assists.
