June 30, (THEWILL) – The trial of Manchester City footballer, Benjamin Mendy, is currently ongoing at Chester Crown Court, as he is accused of raping a young woman and attempting to rape another.
The jury, comprising six women and six men, has been informed by trial Judge, Stephen Everett, that Mendy had previously been found not guilty of sexual offences alleged by other women earlier this year. The judge cautioned the jury against seeking information about the past trial and urged them to base their verdict solely on the evidence presented during the current trial.
Meanwhile, Mendy’s defence maintains that any sexual contact was consensual, with the footballer denying all charges against him. The trial heard that Mendy allegedly took advantage of two female guests during social gatherings at his £4m mansion in Mottram St Andrew, Cheshire.
The first incident involved a UK student, referred to as woman A, whom Mendy had met in Barcelona in 2017. A year later, when the woman visited Mendy’s house with other girls after a night out, she alleged that Mendy appeared uninvited in the ensuite bathroom while she was showering, wearing only boxer shorts.
Despite her resistance, Mendy allegedly attempted to rape her on the bed. In the second incident, the assault involved woman B, who was invited back to Mendy’s house with friends after a night at a bar near his residence. Woman B claimed that Mendy took her phone, which contained intimate photos, and led her to his locked bedroom.
According to the testimony of woman B, Mendy asked her to undress and proceeded to rape her despite her objections. Allegedly, he remarked: “It’s fine. I’ve had sex with 10,000 women.” Mendy has maintained that the sexual encounters were consensual.
