September 25, (THEWILL) – Former US President, Donald Trump, has alleged that Iran is making attempts to kill him.
Trump made the strong allegation in a post shared on Wednesday, via his X platform, saying Iran has already made some big threats on his life, which didn’t work out.
He, however, warned that an attack against him as a former US President is a death wish for the attacker, adding that the country is not backing down as it will try again.
The Republican candidate in the November 5 United States presidential election, also commended the Republicans and Democrats for putting aside their political differences to unanimously vote in parliament for more money to go to the Secret Service.
“Big threats on my life by Iran. The entire U.S. Military is watching and waiting. Moves were already made by Iran that didn’t work out, but they will try again. Not a good situation for anyone. I am surrounded by more men, guns, and weapons than I have ever seen before.
“Thank you to Congress for unanimously approving far more money to the Secret Service – Zero “NO” Votes, strictly bipartisan. Nice to see Republicans and Democrats get together on something. An attack on a former President is a Death Wish for the attacker!”
Meanwhile, the US Department of Justice said on Tuesday that the gunman who allegedly tried to kill the former President at his Florida Golf Course, Ryan Routh, has been charged with attempted assassination of a major presidential candidate.
In addition to the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate, the new charges also include possession of a firearm in furtherance of a violent crime and assault on a federal officer, who court documents indicated was a Secret Service agent.
Routh, 58, was arrested on September 15 after Secret Service agents spotted him with a gun near the course where Trump was playing. His gun was spotted poking out from the bushes by a Secret Service agent as he scouted ahead during Trump’s golf game.
The agent fired on the suspect, who fled but was later apprehended. A federal judge ruled on Monday that Routh should remain in custody.
FBI analysis of Routh’s phone showed he had been in Florida since August 18, and his devices were located multiple times between that date and September 15 near Trump’s golf course and his Mar-a-Lago residence, prosecutors said.
Before being spotted by the Secret Service agent, he had spent nearly 12 hours in the vicinity of the club, according to his phone location data, the prosecution has said.
It was the second assassination attempt on Trump. The first took place on July 13 at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a gunman opened fire, killing one person and wounding Trump in the ear.
