Insecurity: Igbo Community Leader In Akwa Ibom Asks Federal Govt To Reschedule Anambra Poll

October 27, (THEWILL) – The Leader of Igbo Community in Akwa Ibom state Elder Sunday Orie has advised the federal government and Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) not to conduct elections in Anambra in view of the prevailing security situation in Igboland .

Speaking with newsmen in Uyo on Tuesday Orie said the spate insecurity now in entire Igboland was not conducive for the election billed for November, 8 2021 in Anambra state

Orie who is the Chief Executive Officer ( CEO) of Ugo Parker Motors in Akwa Ibom state suggested that the federal government should look into the agitation of Independent People of Biafra ( IPOB) through dialogue so they can have a good environment and peaceful atmosphere in whatever they want to do .

” You can’t be asking me to come for election when you know that you are using a gun to go after me . Having looked at the area , I want to say that something should be done about it.”

He further suggested that the federal government should shift the election for security reason’

” If all your preparations are for me to come and vote and the security Agencies are more in number than the people coming to vote , then there is a problem . These are the things that the federal government should look into before the Anambra elections. ”

He said the heavy presence of security agents in Anambra is intimidating to the people adding that free and fair elections can not be achieved in such an atmosphere.

” Yes, I am not from Anambra but Abia State . Having been leader of Igbo Community in Akwa Ibom state , I think I can speak for my people. And based on that, I am saying that they are having an intimidating election . This means people would not come out to vote. At the end of the day, they declared the winner of whoever they like, not who won the election. ”

He advised the federal government to postpone the election and enter into dialogue with the leader of Independent People of Biafra ( IPOB) for enduring peace in the region .

” What they should do is to call the attention of the IPOB leader . A man that is controlling a battalion of people should not joke with him . Ask him what he wants? Remember, whatever you can not get by begging , you can’t get it by force” he said .
