November 07, (THEWILL) – Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has described President Bola Tinubu’s approval of financing arrangements for the Ibom Deep Seaport project as a landmark development that will transform the state’s economy and position it as a major maritime hub in the Gulf of Guinea.

Eno, who made this known in a statewide broadcast following the President’s official visit to Akwa Ibom on Friday, said the approval marked a defining moment in the state’s economic journey, opening new opportunities for international trade, investment, industrial growth and employment.

The governor said the deep seaport was more than an infrastructure project, describing it as a gateway to economic transformation that would reposition Akwa Ibom as a major player in Nigeria’s maritime industry and international commerce.

He expressed gratitude to Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the state and his commitment to the realisation of the project, assuring the President of the state government’s full cooperation to ensure its successful implementation.

Eno’s remarks followed Tinubu’s visit to Akwa Ibom, during which the President inaugurated the newly completed international terminal of the Victor Attah International Airport and announced his support for the Ibom Deep Seaport project.

The governor, however, linked the President’s gesture to the state’s political support ahead of the 2027 general election, pledging that Akwa Ibom residents would vote overwhelmingly for Tinubu on January 16, 2027, to secure his return to office for a second term.

“Akwa Ibom assures you that we will respond en masse on January 16, 2027, as we will give you all our votes in support of your continuity in office from May 29, 2027”, he said.

Eno also thanked Tinubu, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, the Senate President, governors and other dignitaries who accompanied the President, reiterating his administration’s commitment to working with the Federal Government to deliver the Ibom Deep Seaport and other development priorities.

The governor concluded by expressing optimism about the state’s development prospects, urging residents to remain united behind his administration’s ARISE agenda, which he said was anchored on building a prosperous Akwa Ibom.
