In a post on X on Thursday, September 17, he said he was tired of repeating the same concerns without seeing the collective action he believes is needed.

Mr Macaroni also addressed the threats linked to his activism, saying they have been a regular part of his experience since 2020 but were not the reason he decided to take a break.

He said he is now focusing on his personal wellbeing and “artistic redefinition” while taking a step back from sustained political commentary.
September 17, (THEWILL) – Nigerian actor and comedian Adebowale Adedayo, popularly known as Mr Macaroni, has explained why he has taken a step back from frequent political commentary.
In a post on X on Thursday, September 17, Mr Macaroni said he had not stopped speaking about government, injustice or oppression because of threats.
According to him, threats have been part of his experience since 2020, but he is now tired of repeatedly raising the same concerns without seeing what he considers enough public action.
“I am TIRED of saying the same thing over and over again,” he wrote.
“We are too relaxed for a country suffering so much. There is no reason whatsoever on earth for Nigerians to continue to accept the unconscionable level of corruption, oppression and inhumane treatment that has been inflicted on us all these years,” he said.
Mr Macaroni added that until Nigerians were ready to take action, he would continue “cheering on from the sidelines.”
He also said he has gone through difficult personal experiences in recent years and is now taking time to recover, find “some peace and happiness” and focus on his creative work.
The clarification followed the resurfacing of an old Wazobia FM interview in which the actor discussed the personal cost of his activism.
In the interview, Mr Macaroni recalled facing serious threats during the #EndSARS protests and said the situation caused concern within his family.
He said his mother frequently called him out of fear, while his family at one point considered flying him out of the country.
The interview was recorded more than two years ago, according to Mr Macaroni.

He also clarified that many of the interviews currently resurfacing online are old and urged people not to rely only on headlines, which he said can be misleading.
He noted that most of the interviews being shared were recorded two to three years ago and said he still stands by what he said in them.
Mr Macaroni also spoke about the backlash he received from some Nigerians after publicly discussing political issues.
He said he was sometimes portrayed as “the troublesome person” even when he believed he was speaking about issues affecting the public.
He has remained vocal on political and social issues since the #EndSARS period and also spoke publicly during the 2023 election, when he encouraged Nigerians to vote and disclosed his own preferred candidate.
In his latest message, Mr Macaroni said he is taking time away from sustained political commentary to focus on himself and his creative work.
“I will keep you updated on my journey of artistic redefinition and hopefully other exciting stuff,” he wrote.
