August 21, (THEWILL) — Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, shared a light-hearted exchange with Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, during a meeting in Abuja on Thursday.
Davido repeatedly teased Wike, saying, “I won, I beat you guys,” in an apparent reference to the recent Osun State governorship election.
Wike, who was seated during the exchange, smiled at Davido before responding, “No, you beat us? Okay, okay.”
The response prompted more laughter as the singer continued the light-hearted banter.
Davido then replied, “I beg o,” before prostrating before Wike and embracing the minister. The exchange drew laughter from those around them and appeared to remain friendly throughout.
Davido was accompanying his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, during a series of post-election engagements in Abuja.
Adeleke had earlier visited President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa before meeting with Wike.
The governor also presented his Certificate of Return during his Abuja engagements following his victory in the August 15 governorship election.
Adeleke won the election on the Accord Party platform, polling 511,067 votes against the All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, who secured 444,815 votes.
Davido was among the prominent public figures who openly supported his uncle during the election campaign and publicly backed Adeleke’s bid for another term.
The exchange has since attracted attention online, with Davido’s playful celebration of his uncle’s victory and Wike’s relaxed response drawing reactions from viewers.

The video has sparked a range of reactions on social media, with users offering different interpretations of the playful exchange between Davido and Wike.
One of the more critical reactions came from activist and politician Omoyele Sowore, who wrote: “Nigerian political hustlers will deceive the public, and the gullible will swallow the deception whole. Here is the loud and lousy @davido genuflecting before Nyesom Wike @GovWike, barely a week after their ‘agreement is agreement’ election politics in Osun, a contest marred by deadly violence and the loss of scores of lives. Behind all the public grandstanding, insults, and manufactured outrage, these political actors know exactly where their interests converge. Dissemblers. Gerrymanderers. Carpetbaggers. Political hustlers. Lying machines. When their interests are at stake, the masks come off.”
Another commenter, @Alfa_Rounder, focused on Wike’s political reputation, writing: “The fear of Wike is the beginning of wisdom, make dem no turn osun to river, like Wike election is not won in a day… Nigeria politics person need to be guided”
