For years, Nicolas Pépé’s €80 million move from Lille to Arsenal stood as the benchmark for the most expensive transfer involving an African player. That record has now been eclipsed, with Real Madrid’s acquisition of Yan Diomande taking the continent’s transfer ceiling into nine-figure territory.
The arrival of Ayyoub Bouaddi at Manchester City has pushed another teenager into the upper reaches of the ranking, while established stars such as Victor Osimhen and Omar Marmoush remain among the most expensive African players ever transferred.
With several major deals completed over the past two seasons, the list has changed significantly.
